Never underestimate the popularity of Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart. While it may have seemed unthinkable just a few months ago, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle has officially passed Justice League at the worldwide box office.

Jumanji earned the top spot at the domestic box office for the second weekend in a row with $27 million, bringing the star-studded sequel’s global total to $666.17 million. Comparatively, Justice League has made $654.4 million in its total run since opening in theaters this past November. As more theaters pull Justice League to make room for new releases, it would be highly unlikely for Justice League to catch up to Jumanji.

Jumanji has held strong from week to week ever since its Christmas release, even with the stiff competition from Star Wars: The Last Jedi. The film looks to continue its box office dominance through January, with the next huge event film not arriving until February, in the form of Marvel’s Black Panther.

In the brand new adventure Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, the tables are turned as four teenagers are sucked into the world of Jumanji.

When four high-school kids discover an old video game console with a game they’ve never heard of – Jumanji – they are immediately drawn into the game’s jungle setting, literally becoming the avatars they chose: gamer Spencer becomes a brawny adventurer (Dwayne Johnson); football jock Fridge loses (in his words) “the top two feet of his body” and becomes an Einstein (Kevin Hart); popular girl Bethany becomes a middle-aged male professor (Jack Black); and wallflower Martha becomes a badass warrior (Karen Gillan). What they discover is that you don’t just play Jumanji – you must survive it. To beat the game and return to the real world, they’ll have to go on the most dangerous adventure of their lives, discover what Alan Parrish left 20 years ago, and change the way they think about themselves – or they’ll be stuck in the game forever…

Directed by Jake Kasdan, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle stars Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, Jack Black, Rhys Darby, Morgan Turner, Tom Matheson, Bobby Cannavale and Nick Jonas.
