James Gunn took to Twitter to answer a fans question on if there will be a Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and Gunn’s answer was simply “2020”. This shouldn’t come as much of a shock considering there was a 3 year wait between Guardians of the Galaxy Vol’s 1 and 2 . You can check out Gunn’s tweet below.
Although the likes of Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax The Destroyer, Groot and Rocket Raccoon have been the center point of both of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy films, it appears as though the cosmic side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is going to continue to grow outside the ragtag group of spacefaring heroes.
Back in November, Vanity Fair did a profile on the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Disney C.E.O Bob Iger and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige both hinted that they are collaborating with director James Gunn in possibly having several characters from the Guardians of the Galaxy films spin-off into their own respective films.
This piece of news goes along with a comment from Gunn a few months ago in regards to the director shepherding the future of the cosmic side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe around the release of Vol. 3.
Given how we were introduced to the Nova Corps in the original Guardians of the Galaxy and a mere taste of The Watchers in the post-credits scene of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, it’s easy to see the possibility of more Marvel films tying to the farther reaches of outer space.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is available on home video and streaming. Directed by James Gunn, the film stars Chris Pratt as Peter Quill (Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax, Vin Diesel as Groot, Bradley Cooper as Rocket, Michael Rooker as Yondu, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Sean Gunn as Kraglin, Pom Klementieff as Mantis, Elizabeth Debicki as Ayesha, and Kurt Russell as Ego. Many of these same characters are set to appear in Avengers: Infinity War, its sequel, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
